Conference Program

Day 1 — Thursday, June 11

8:00 – 8:30am Registration and Poster Setup
Registration opens at 8:00 am in the Weill Hall Atrium on the 1st floor. Grab your name badge and conference materials here and set up your poster in the Weill Atrium (if applicable) at its designated location. Late registration will be outside of Weill Hall 226.
8:30 – 9:30am Welcome Reception, Expectation Setting, and Informal Networking

Presentation from CIDER postdocs on conference goals, plan, and resources. Welcome and overview of the conference, known hurdles and strategies, and a model for the conversations we want to have.
9:30 – 10:30am Poster Session A — Local DBER Research — Topics: AI & Technology + Pedagogy/Assessment
Weill Hall Atrium
First of two poster sessions showcasing local discipline-based education research. Attendees are encouraged to circulate and engage with presenters.

10:30 – 10:40am Short Break & Group Photo

10:40 – 11:40am Poster Session B — Local DBER Research — Topics: Equity/Identity/Belonging + Careers/Research Experiences + Curriculum/Community

11:50am – 1:10pm NYDBER Conference Visioning and Poster Session Discussions

Initial NYDBER Conference Community Visioning and Poster Session Debrief. Groups will reflect on the poster sessions and discuss themes emerging from localized DBER research. The session includes a gallery walk, where groups visit other groups' boards.

Structured working group sessions exploring goals for building connections across disciplines and institutions — moving from individual and local DBER work toward regional and inter-disciplinary collaboration.

A jigsaw-style discussion where members from different working groups share key ideas and goals with one another.

Cornell personnel will help attendees form small dinner groups before heading out for the evening. See the Directions page for a list of recommended nearby restaurants. Groups will depart together with a Cornell guide.

5:00pm Depart for 6:15 pm Dinner in Ithaca — Break & Group Outings
Attendees head out with their dinner groups to restaurants in Ithaca, led by Cornell personnel. This is a great opportunity to continue conversations from the day in a relaxed setting.

Working groups identify and discuss the enablers and barriers to deeper inter-disciplinary DBER collaboration and NY state-level coordination. What structures, resources, and relationships are needed?

A forward-looking session to plan for future collaborations. Discussion topics include: What is the value of a regional DBER conference? What can this space be for? How do we plan for sustained interDBER and NY state DBER collaboration? What partnerships and projects can we commit to?
